Kitchen Dreams Materialise vol. 1

One of the most exciting things I’ve ever ordered is arriving Friday! A Samsung bespoke column refrigerator. I’ve never purchased a new appliance before and I cannot wait to show you because I think this is the sleekest refrigerator I have yet seen. I always thought I would save up for a Smeg but they don’t seem to make a full refrigerator (without the tiny freezer). I love Smeg appliances so much and perhaps a machine from the stylish Italian maker will appear in my future in another form.

Here is a look at sanding the inside of these incredible antique upper cabinets. I feel so lucky to have found them and to be able to use them in my dream of a kitchen.

I applied one coat of primer after sanding. Normally I would apply brushing putty but I’m currently out.

Left side has oil primer only and the right has one coat of HOLLANDLAC Brilliant 98.

That brilliant lustrous gloss enamel surface after only one top coat. I will be applying at least one more coat.

A look at this east side of my kitchen dream.

The lace embossed apron front farm sink is by Kohler; a pre-loved gem that radiates timeless beauty. The base cabinets are recycled from a kitchen remodel on the west side of town. We have modified them to make them work. They are constructed of solid maple and plywood, which is why I purchased them as they are higher quality than I could afford if buying new cabinetry. I was going to strip and stain the up cycled base cabinets but instead I think I will paint them with oil enamel for a finish that will be not only durable but easy to clean in their burnished beauty. Ensuring surfaces are a breeze to clean has become increasingly important to me as I endeavor in making a home out of a neglected but once grand manse. It is possible the weight of this mission has arisen from the endless accumulation of construction dust but one thing is certain cleaning objects of beauty makes the diurnal process of erasing dirt feel all the more worthy and gratifying.

Over and out. XO Emma
